Sten Andersson Dead at 83

Published måndag 18 september 2006 kl 11.19

On the eve of the election, one of Sweden’s best known retired Social Democrat politicians passed away.

Former foreign minister and party secretary Sten Andersson died at the age of 83, apparently of heart failure.

Andersson was best known for helping to start the dialog between the Palestine Liberation Movement and the United States in the 1980’s. In recent years in retirement he was highly critical of Prime Minister Göran Persson’s more pro-Israeli stance.
