Following the recent Swedish elections, the new parliament has convened, and Moderate Per Westerberg has been elected speaker.

During the afternoon he is holding talks with the leaders of all the political parties, both those within his own center-right alliance and the new opposition parties. Afterwards Westerberg will meet with King Carl Gustav to inform him that Moderate Party leader Fredrik Reinfeldt will be Sweden’s new prime minister.

Parliament is scheduled to formally vote for the new prime minister on Thursday, and the new government’s policy declaration will be presented Friday.
