A Swedish teen has become the first person outside the test group to be vaccinated against cervical cancer.

The newspaper “Metro” reports that 17 year old Terese Åkerlund received the vaccination with the medicine Gardasil Monday at Stockholm’s Queen Sophia Hospital.

Initially patients will have to pay the cost of the treatment, which is around 650 dollars. But the Swedish authorities hope the vaccine will be available as part of the public vaccination program within a couple of years.

“Metro” says cervical cancer is the second most common form of cancer among Swedish woman, after breast cancer.
