Triple Murderer May Be Pardoned
There’s concern in Sweden that a triple murderer may go free, after serving 18 years in prison.
Juha Valjakkala was convicted for killing all the members of a family in northern Sweden in 1988. He received a life sentence, which he was later allowed to serve in his native Finland.
Now, Swedish Television News reports that a parole board has approved his application for a pardon, but the final decision is up to Finnish President Tarja Halonen.
Swedish Justice Minister Beatrice Ask is critical, pointing out the he has not been a model inmate, but instead escaped from prison and committed new crimes.
