Concern Over Change in Sick Leave System

There’s criticism of the new center-right government’s proposal that people calling in sick might need a doctor’s certificate from the first day.

Currently people here can have up to one week’s sick leave without a certificate. They receive no pay for the first day, but 80 percent of their salary afterwards.

The new legislation would allow employers to require a doctor’s certificate from day one, if they want to. Experts say this could lead to chaos in the healthcare system, with long lines of people who would be better off staying home.
