Horses Chase off Attacking Bear

(Not the bear in the story)

A wild bear attacked three racehorses at a practice run in southcentral Sweden Sunday.

The three trotters were being taken for a run on a country road when the bear came charging at them.  While coachman Björn Johansson was thrown from his carriage, the three horses successfully defended themselves and drove off the bear, apparently with a broken leg.

One of the horses suffered minor cuts, but according to the coachman did not appear badly injured. After being nearly wiped out one hundred years ago, the Swedish bear population has recovered to an estimated 2500 animals.
