Digital TV Phase 3

The plug is pulled on analog TV on Gotland

On Monday 700,000 more Swedish TV households were forced into the digital age.

In the third phase of the project, the analog TV transmitters were turned off in large parts of Halland, Västra Götaland, Skåne, and Småland in southern Sweden. The previous switch-overs were on the island of Gotland, and in Uppsala, Västerås, and Örebro, north and west of Stockholm.

The change only covers television received through the air. Cable and satellite television in Sweden have more of less already switched to digital.

According to surveys, around 10 percent of Swedes are missing the information campaigns, which means around 11,000 households in southern Sweden were probably surprised to discover their screens have gone blank.

Next year the rest of Sweden will switch from analog to digital TV, including Malmö, Gothenburg, and Stockholm.
