Inserting Ads into Movies Illegal

Vilgot Sjöman, director of the controversial films “I am Curious Yellow” and I am Curious Blue” died last Sunday. On Wednesday an appeals court ruled in his favor that a TV station was wrong to insert commercials into movies.

The court upheld a lower court decision that TV4 violated the integrity of Sjöman’s film “Alfred” and Claes Eriksson’s “The Shark Who Knew Too Much”.

TV4 says it may appeal to the Swedish Supreme Court. The ruling is likely to have little affect on commercial broadcasters here, as since the celebrated cases they have been signing agreements with directors for commercial breaks in their films.
