More Internet & Telephone Records To Be Kept
Swedish telecom and Internet operators are to save information about their customers’ Internet and telephone traffic for a whole year according to a new government study.
The proposal comes originally from the EU, which made the suggestion 3 years ago, and national governments across the EU have since then been looking at ways to enshrine the proposals in national legislation.
According to the plans the service providers will keep records of all phone calls, text messages and e-mails, but won’t save the actual content of the calls and mails, just record that the communication has taken place. The increased surveillance is being made in the name of the fight against terrorism.
