More Antibiotics Prescribed
More and more antibiotics are being prescribed in Sweden with experts now worrying it could lead to more infections with resistant bacteria in the country.
The biggest increase in use is among people in the larger cities and among children under 15.
The organisation, ”The Swedish strategic programme against antibiotic resistance” or Strama, says much of the use is unnecessary with doctors prescribing the pills against common colds and mild respiratory tract infections.
They say the more antibiotics a person takes, the higher the chance that the bacteria naturally found in bodies will become resistant to the pills, and this could cause problems in future infections.
