Measures to Reduce Violence Against Women

Sweden’s center-right coalition government has presented a plan to reduce violence against women.

Justice Minister Beatrice Ask announced some 130 million US-Dollars of the government’s budget will be earmarked to finance measures to deal with the problem. Especially juridical institutions are to be provided with more money – enabling them to investigate cases of violence against women deeper than today.

According to the police, about 25,000 reports of such violence are registered every year. Authorities estimate though that the number of crimes actually committed by violent men is significantly higher.
