Next Stop: Kabul for Afghani Asylum Seekers
The Swedish Migration Board is set to deport several hundreds of Afghani asylum seekers to Kabul instead of southern Afghanistan where armed conflicts are underway.
There is heavy criticism from both UNHCR representatives who say the decision goes against guidelines and the affected asylum seekers themselves. Without a support net of family or friends in Kabul, they say they will become refugees in their own country.
The Migration Board’s Director General, Dan Eliasson says the decision is supported by Swedish law.
