Fewer Police Complaints After Assaults
Swedish Radio News reports that fewer assaults are being reported to the police here.
Every year the emergency room at Stockholm’s Söder sjukhus hospital treats around two thousand assault victims, most of them young men and teens. But, staff say, six out of ten refuse to file police complaints.
A similar study in the year 2000 revealed that forty percent didn’t want to go to the authorities.
The reasons for the increase are said to be fear of reprisals, and the drawn out pace of police investigations. Victims say they don’t want to have to revisit the incidents two years later.
