Calls to Boycott the Beijing Olympics

With the Olympic games drawing near, and riots being beaten down by the authorities in Tibet, China is once again in the focus of the world’s media. The issues raised are those of politics and human rights viewed in the contrasting perspective of the very ideals of Olympic games themselves: of peace, respect for human lives and achievements, of different cultures and individuals.

Calls for a boycott started even before the latest unrest in Tibet, with the Chinese attitude towards the situation in Darfur also causing concern.
