2008 Stockholm Water Prize to British Professor

The 2008 Stockholm Water Prize has been awarded to Professor John Anthony Allan of the University of London’s King’s College.

His concept of ”virtual water” highlights the connection between water, industry and politics, measuring the amount of water used behind the scenes. For example, in its presentation of the 2008 prize, The Stockholm International Water Institute pointed out that 140 litres of water is typically consumed in order to bring you your morning cup of coffee in terms of production, packaging and the shipping of those beans.

Professor John Anthony Allan will receive his US$150,000 cash prize in Stockholm’s City Hall in August.
