Torture Report to be Investigated Again
French authorities have decided to resume investigations into the alleged torture of a Congolese prisoner during a Swedish-French peace keeping mission in 2003.
According to Swedish Television (SVT) the Supreme Commander of the French Armed Forces has made that decision after the visit of a Swedish delegation in France.
Two weeks ago, France stopped investigations claiming there was too little evidence available. Swedish Television had previously reported that the Congolese prisoner had been tortured by French soldiers for 8 hours without the present Swedish soldiers intervening.
Sweden’s military maintains that one of its lieutenants halted the torturing but was disciplined afterwards for not reporting the incident to his superiors.
