Sahlin Worries About Social Democrat Membership

The leader of Sweden’s largest political party, the opposition Social Democrats, says that the numbers of party members are falling so sharply that she wonders if the party will even exist in 10 years time.

According to the Göteborgs Posten newspaper Mona Sahlin made the comments while speaking to a local branch of the the union Unionen in Gothenburg on Wednesday.

The party lost over 19 thousand members last year, 16 percent of the membership. She also says she is worried about the age structure in the organisation. ”Just the fact that at 51 I’m one of the younger members of the party says it all”, she said.
