UNHCR Asks Sweden Not to Send Refugees to Kabul
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has appealed to Sweden to stop sending Afghan refugees back to Kabul – if they have no family or friends there to provide assistance
The UNHCR maintains that it is impossible for such refugees to survive without this help.
While Sweden has one of West’s most generous refugee policies for Afghan and Iraq, Swedish migration authorities have decided to send back refugees to Kabul and other large cities – even if they originally came from other areas where fighting continues.
Swedish Radio news has contacted one refugee sent back to Kabul 5 months ago who has been unable to find work.
He’s been able to survive thanks to private money donated by Swedish embassy employees.
