Reformed School Kicks Off

With schools starting this week in most parts of the country some important education reforms come into effect.

Especially pupils in grades one, two and three will be affected by the reforms implemented by the center-right coalition government. For the first time the youngest pupils will receive grade-like evaluations at the end of the year – so do pupils in grade two.

Children in third grade will have to pass tests in mathematics and Swedish at the end of the school year in order to prove that they learned what is considered necessary according to the curriculum.

Before the reforms were passed by the parliament, they sparked heated public debates over the need of grades and other methods of evaluation in Swedish schools.
