Social Democrat Yes to File-Sharing Law

The Swedish Social Democrats have agreed to support the government’s controversial file-sharing law, but say that it needs some amendments to protect individual integrity.

Among their proposals are the creation of an independent regulator to oversee how the law affects individuals.

And they add that only one organisation should get the information on who is sharing files.

The Socialists would also set up a commission to look into the issue of copyright and the internet.

The proposed law aims to investigate and penalise those who illegally share copyrighted files on the internet, but it has been attacked for its potential to criminalise the younger generation of Sweden, hundreds of thousands of whom regularly share files.
