Malmö unrest

Another night of unrest in Malmö

Disturbances in Malmö’s immigrant district Rosengård flared up once again Thursday night and early Friday morning. Police dispersed crowds of mostly young protesters who set garbage containers on fire and threw stones at patrol cars. Fire engines and ambulances were not sent to the riot scene after they had been attacked the previous night.

The ongoing unrest in Sweden’s third-largest city started in November, when a building owner canceled the rent contract for a mosque in a basement room. When members of a local Islamic group tried to occupy the premises they were expelled by the police.
