Saab

Consultations in Washington

Swedish Minister for Enterprise Maud Olofsson is in Washington for talks with Obama administration officials about the future of the Saab auto company.

Saab is Swedish-based, but wholly owned by General Motors. GM has announced it is looking for a new buyer for Saab as part of its efforts to reach viability. On Monday President Obama gave GM a 60 day deadline to come up with more aggressive restructuring plans.

Speaking with Swedish Radio News Maud Olofsson says there has to be a new owner for Saab within those 60 days. She says she is telling the Obama administration that they should support and not interfere with GM’s efforts to find a buyer. (gw)
