Swedish Cable TV Knocked Out

Lightning strikes resulted in much of Sweden’s cable television being knocked out Tuesday evening. Around 800,000 Swedish households out of provider ComHem’s 1.8 million subscribers were reportedly affected.

According to the newspaper ”Dagens Nyheter” three lightning strikes near Södertälje, south of Stockholm, led to a power outage in the eastern Stockholm district Värtahamnen, where ComHem, the country’s largest cable provider, has its headquarters.

Besides cable, IP telephony and broadband services were disrupted, as was ComHem’s own website.

The power outage also affected some services from Viasat, a satellite programming provider.

ComHem’s cable services were back after about one hour offline.
