Bildt Meets Clinton in Washington

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt met American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington Tuesday.

It was Bildt’s first official meeting with Clinton since she took over the post in the Obama administration. After the meeting, Clinton underlined the good relations between Sweden and the United States.

With Sweden taking over the rotating presidency of the European Union in July, much of their talks covered climate policies. Bildt told Swedish Radio News afterwards that the United States has high expectation for cooperation concerning the environment during the Swedish presidency.

They also reportedly discussed the peace process in the Middle East and the situation regarding Iran. Bildt says the issue of Europe taking on prisoners currently at the Guantanamo base was only covered briefly.
