Left Party MPs Call For "Truth Commission"
Two MPs from Sweden’s opposition Left Party want the government to set up an independent so-called ”truth commission” to look at how this country co-operated with the United States following 9/11.
Writing in Göteborgs Posten newspaper Hans Linde and Alice Åström say that many of the cases of co-operation with the US, such as the CIA flying terror suspects from Sweden to Egypt, have been uncovered by the Swedish media, and not by due process in the Swedish parliament.
They question if there have been more cases of Sweden doing what the US wants, that haven’t been uncovered by the media. They say that an independent commission could make sure all the cards are on the table and put an end to what they call ”a shameful period in modern Swedish history”.(kb)
