Latvia Criticizes "Tough" Swedish Banks

Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis has told the Swedish news agency TT that Latvian police are investigating Swedish banks operating in this Baltic country for using too-aggressive means to collect debts from those who took bank loans.

Prime Minister Dombrovskis says that this includes freezing accounts and taking over patents.

Swedish banks have dominated the scene in Latvia and Estonia as well, and some critics have blamed the Swedes for Latvia’s huge economics problems.
