Olofsson Re-elected Center Leader
The Center Party re-elected Maud Olofsson as party leader at its conference Sunday.
Olofsson, who is Minister for Enterprise and Deputy Prime Minister in the center-right government, was returned unanimously, as the party prepares for next month’s EU Parliament elections and next year’s elections to the Swedish Parliament.
There were voices of criticism during the conference against Olofsson’s reversal of the party’s longheld opposition to expanding nuclear power, and the party establishment’s support for legislation allowing the monitoring of telephone and e-mail communications.
