Swedish Police Evacuate Iraqi Refugees
Swedish police in the far northern town of Vännas had to evacuate 40 Iraqi refugees from 2 families – after an angry crowd of stone-throwing young and older residents gathered outside the refugees’ homes and smashed windows.
Observers said the conflict started after a fight between younger refugees and local youngsters.
Meanwhile, some 50 town residents staged a demonstration in support of refugees after the incident – some of them maintaining that right-wing groups have been spreading anti-immigrant leaflets around town.
