Swedish Gay Rights Activist Attacked in Moldova
The head of Sweden’s RFSL gay rights organisation, Sören Juvas, was assaulted in Moldova Monday, after taking part in the country’s Pride celebrations over the weekend. Juvas was stopped on the street by Moldovan police who brought him to a police station for questioning why he was in the country. When he left the police station he was attacked by a gang of unknown men on the street outside.
Local gay activists say the gang was probably tipped off by the police, or could even have been off-duty police officers. Söran Juvas is now back in Sweden, and despite cuts and bruises is said to be doing well under the circumstances.
