Swedish, Finnish Parliamentarians Meet

Swedish and Finnish parliamentarians have carried out their first-ever joint session in the Finnish city of Tavastehus - marking this as the 200th year anniversary since Sweden lost Finland to Russia after 600 years of Swedish rule.

Both prime ministers and other parliamentarians declare that the discussions were successful - covering the global financial crisis, the coming world conference on climate change in Copenhagen, expansion of the European Union, Sweden’s coming EU presidency and safeguarding the Nordic welfare state model.

The meeting also approved a new Swedish-Finnish fund to help clean up the badly polluted Baltic Sea.
