Consultants Caught Cheating Tax
Consultants hired by some of Sweden's biggest companies have systematically hidden hundreds of millions of kronor abroad to avoid paying tax at home. The revelations come from an investigation by Swedish Radio's Kaliber programme.
Jonas Arvidsson, a prosecutor at the Swedish Economic Crime Authority in Gothenburg, told the programme that several consultants had been sent to prison for tax evasion with several more under investigation.
" What we are now seeing is only the tip of the iceberg, " Arvidsson said.
Some of the consultants accused in the programme, who are specialists in IT and are paid for work by companies such as Tele2, Volvo cars and IBM, have placed some of their earnings into secret bank accounts in foreign tax havens.
