Sweden Freezes Zambia Aid
Sweden and the Netherlands have decided to freeze $US 33 million in aid for Zambia's fight against HIV because of high-level corruption in the African country. The suspension of funding also affects other health programmes, as news agency Reuters reports. Zambia’s Finance and Health Ministers announced the decision was made after senior health ministry officials had stolen $US 2 million. Zambia has vowed to stamp out corruption, in a programme closely watched by donors. (ah)
