Sweden Loses Jet Fighter Bid

Sweden has lost its bid to sell its jet fighter, the “Gripen” to Brazil. On Monday, the governments of Brazil and France said in a joint statement that Brazil has entered into final negotiations with France to buy 36 fighter jets.

In exchange France has agreed to buy around a dozen Brazilian military cargo planes. France had been competing against Sweden and the United States to sell 36 planes to help renew Brazil's air force. The Rafale, manufactured by Dassault Aviation, was shortlisted along with the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet supplied by Boeing and the lighter Gripen combat jet offered by Sweden's Saab.
