Joint Declaration on Justice Cooperation

In Washington, the Swedish EU presidency and the United States have adopted a declaration on the development of future cooperation in the field of justice and home affairs. According to a press release which was published on the EU presidency's Web site, the declaration "establishes a common will to deepen cooperation between the USA and the EU for strengthened freedom, security and justice."

It is meant "to improve the dialogue on asylum and migration." The EU presidency was represented at the meeting by Minister for Justice Beatrice Ask and Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström, together with Vice President of the European Commission Jacques Barrot. The United States was represented by Attorney General Eric Holder and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Jane Holl Lute.
