Strike Threat Postponed
Swedish shops and department stores will not have to close over the Easter holidays. The unions for the retail business personnel agreed on Monday to postpone a threatened strike by a week. This had been suggested by the mediators trying to avert an open labor conflict between the unions and the retail business association, Svensk Handel. The unions gave their okay after the employers had accepted the compromise.
Both sides have stated that they will now cooperate in the search for a solution. The unions demand monthly pay raises between 90 and a 100 dollars as well as improved employment conditions.
