Red Cross Chief Quits

The general secretary of the Swedish Red Cross has left his post but denied his move has anything to do with the fraud trial involving the charity's former communciations manager Johan af Donner.

Christer Zettergren told TT news agency that he had decided to end his 9 year working relationship with the Red Cross in 2008, long before the fraud scandal broke and only carried on working there to steer the organisation through its current crisis.

Johan af Donner was sacked by the Red Cross on the 9th of June last year on suspicion of swindling the organisation out of millions of Swedish kronor. His trial ended last week and he's currently awaiting the verdict of the court.

Christer Zettergren received criticism for the way he handled the fraud allegations when the story broke.

He'll now work as an advisor to the Swedish Migration Board.
