New Hospital Built in Public Private Partnership

It's the first public-private healthcare partnership project in Sweden and the largest project ever by Stockholm County Council. It was announced on Wednesday that Swedish construction company Skanska had won the 2 billion dollar contract in partnership with British investment firm Innisfree to build the new Karolinska University hospital, replacing the current Karolinska hospital in Stockholm.

The hospital, which will provide specialized healthcare as well as education and research, is set to be completed in December 2015. It will house a total of 600 in-patient beds of which 125 will be for intensive care and 75 for postoperative care. All patients will have a single room.

Under the private public partnership scheme which comes from the UK, the contractor is responsible for facility management for an extended period of time after the completion of buildings, in this case another 30 years.
