Protest Against Exclusive Bankers' Meeting

One of Sweden’s major banks has left a secret bankers meeting here in protest, because of the exclusive program in the midst of the financial crisis.

According to the business newspaper “Dagens Industri” the three day meeting by the Institut International d’Etudes Bancaires, or IIEB, was not only secret, the agenda included shopping and expensive dinners.

The exclusive bankers club has existed since 1951, but has maintained a very low profile. Handelsbanken’s head of information tells TV4 News they left in protest partly because during the current banking crisis the meeting shouldn’t be held in secret, and partly because of the costs of the fancy dinners and other exclusive points on the program.
