Leader Lived in Sweden
For many years a struggle for independence from Indonesia was led by an exile based just outside Stockholm.
The separatist leader Hasan di Tiro died on Thursday of pneumonia, aged 84. He worked for years for autonomy for the Aceh region of Indonesia, and lived in the Stockholm suburb of Alby, which he moved to in 1979.
Descendend from nobility, Di Tiro was a founder of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), that waged a struggle against Indonesia's then military government from 1976, until peace was signed in 2005.
