A hostage drama at a Migration Board holding centre, near Örkelljunga in southern Sweden, ended early on Friday afternoon with the arrest of the hostage taker.
According to police, the incident which resulted in one hostage being treated in hospital for knife injuries, took place in parallel with a demonstration against the forced deportation of an asylum seeker.
“We received an alert at 11 am about a possible escape attempt,” police spokesperson Sofie Österheim told Swedish radio news.
“Then two people managed to get into the Migration Board property and they ended up in a hostage situation. ”
It is still unclear whether the two hostages were part of the anti-deportation demonstration. The victim of the knife attack was not seriously wounded, according to police reports.
