A man racing to catch the Stockholm subway missed the car and got his leg stuck between the train-car and the platform Wednesday. While the man's injury wasn't life-threatening, this and a similar incident in November has led to questions about safety on the Stockholm subway platforms, which are often overcrowded, according to the newspaper Dagens Nyheter.
Despite tests done throughout the decade, Stockholm Public Transport has no functioning safety mechanisms in place to prevent such accidents. Gisela Poellinger from the company told the newspaper Dagens Nyheter that the company has tested several systems to warn drivers when there is something or someone on the tracks, but that there were too many false alarms. She told the paper the mechanism was unable to differentiate between a person falling on the tracks and other objects, such as newspapers.
