Swedish students support their British peers

As student protests in London turn violent over Parliament's threats to drastically hike university tuition fees, the Swedish National Union of Students has issued a statement of support.

Elisabeth Gerhke, vice chair of the union says in a press release that her organization stands whole-heartedly behind the protesters.

"It's not enough to emphasize what negative consequences the development in England can have for the students and for Europe's future. This type of decision can unfortunately be easily contagious. Higher education is our future and not an area that one is advised to cut. Instead, we want investments towards higher quality," Gehrke writes.
