Saudi weapons deal info sent via private e-mail

A high-ranking official at the Sweden Defense Ministry sent notes from secret negotiations with Saudi Arabia from a private, unencrypted e-mail address, Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter reports. IT researcher Olle Bälter told DN, "It's like handing out ice cream cones to foreign intelligence services."

The e-mail, sent by Cecilia Looström, department secretary for the Defense Ministry in June 2008, was wide open to leaks to, among others, foreign intelligence services, before it even reached the intended recipients in Stockholm, DN writes.

Swedish Radio news reported last week about secret plans for Sweden to help Saudi Arabia build a weapons factory there.
