Conservative American Think Tank praises Sweden

Sweden tops global privatization ranking

No country has privatized and deregulated public services as fast as Sweden, according to a new report from the conservative think tank, The Heritage Foundation.

“Sweden has risen up the ranking faster than any developed economy since 1996,” political analyst Anthony Kim at the US think tank told newpaper Svenska Dagbladet.

And the country, once famed for its Social Democratic model, has gone further than most: opening publicly funded but privately owned schools, as well as extensively privatizing the national rail network.

The Heritage Foundation points out that both centre right and socialist governments have pursued the policy.

The think tank added that Sweden’s labour immigration policy is also the most open of any developed western nation.
