Old stone stops Swedish diplomat in Turkey

A Swedish diplomat is in trouble in Turkey. The man, who is stationed at the Swedish foreign ministry in Stockholm, was stopped when he and his new wife were due to fly back home after a charter holiday.

Expressen writes that the diplomat was found to have a marble stone in his luggage which is classed as an archeological relic and the Swede and his wife are now suspected of trying to smuggle it out of Turkey.

The diplomat's wife is critical that noone informed them that it is forbidden to take such stones from Turkey, writes the newspaper.

Foreign ministry staff from the Swedish Embassy in Istanbul have met the man.

"We have not heard of any official criminal charge", says foreign ministry spokesperson Catarina Axelsson to news agency TT.
