Military plane crash

Authorities reported for handling of Hercules crash

Sweden's parliamentary ombudsman will investigate whether Swedish authorities acted incorrectly in connection with the Hercules plane crash intro Kebenekaise, Sweden's tallest mountain, in March.

Three publishers and one reporter at Swedish public television, SVT, have reported the authorities to the ombudsman.

The review will inquire whether Swedish authorities allowed the Norwegian military to restrict the media's freedom of movement after the crash.

The Hercules plane was part of a Norwegian military operation and crashed into Kebenekaise on 14 March. The five Norwegian citizens on board died on impact.

On 11 May a preliminary report by Sweden's Accident Investigation Authority revealed that the pilot of the plane had been ordered to fly lower over Kebenekaise minutes before the crash.
