Dutchman makes record time in Viking-inspired race

The Dutchman Erben Wennars made record time in winning this year's Vikingarännet, according to Swedish Radio News. In the race, competitors skate from Uppsala to Stockholm on the ice of Lake Mälaren.

Wennemars covered the 80 kilometers in 2 hours and 35 minutes, among what organizers reported were 2,700 attendees.

The race is said to take place along an old Viking route, according to Swedish Radio News. However, the race also has a more recent inspiration: the “Eleven-Town-Race” in Holland, according to the Vikingarännet website.
