Normunds Šnē

Normunds Šnē studied the oboe at the Latvian Academy of Music and chamber music in St. Petersburg Conservatory and has gained regards as an oboist internationally. In 1987 Normunds formed Riga Chamber Players. He seriously started his conducting career in 1995 with the studies with among others Maestro Jorma Panula. In 1993 Normunds changed his status in the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra – he took the post of the assistant and from 1996 to 1998 – the conductor.

He has performed as a conductor and oboist all over the world and have had successful collaboration with, among others, Gidon Kremer, Mstislav Rostropovich, Christian Lindberg, Nikolai Petrov, Truls Mörk. Šnē is chief conductor and artistic director for the Riga Sinfonietta since 2006.
