"We went and put out fires, then after a moment we were out again to the same address to put out more" says Åke Stevelind at the fire service to news agency TT.
The fires were set in the Norsborg area, the furthest station on the Stockholm city subway's Red Line.
Mats Almquist at Stockholm police says many local residents helped the police, and the situation calmed down around 1 am.
Fire fighters had a police escort, but did not come under attack or threat while putting out the fires.
