Confiscated Internet Alcohol Returned
There’s confusion here over the legal status of Internet purchases of alcohol from other European Union countries.
In accordance with this country’s restrictive policies, Swedish customs has confiscated such imports. But a court recently referred the issue to the EU court, and ordered that the confiscated goods be restored to one individual because of the expected length of the proceedings
Customs has been forced to inform around 300 Swedes that they can also appeal the confiscation of their alcohol imports.
At heart is a difference of opinion between the Swedish authorities, who regard alcohol as a special case, and the EU, which sees it as any commodity which should be allowed to be sold freely between member countries.
